Sculptures and paintings in museums, now books too!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!! I listened to this podcast and I think that is sort of original. Here is the link: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/01/29/alibraryfilledwithart/
I consider that it has been an original idea to organize an exhibition of books. We are used to visit museums to admire sculptures and paintings, but never books. Walker Art Museum is going to exhibit books!!!! Since earlys 80's they have collected 25,000 books from different materials, authors, centuries, and topics, so by itself, this collection represents an impressive treasure.  We have seen books as objects included in a picture, or as a part of a sculpture. But, books can be an object of recognized art.  That's in fact the point of this article. With this movement, many librarians realize how important their work is, and that books represent and invaluable object. Now, it is consider as art. Remember that books are not only master pieces in the letter's world. First books were made by hands. There was no printer. So, that's why I consider that they are art. In this article, there were mentioned some examples. One of them is about a cuban artist who made a boat with his schoolbooks, and others have made stairs as small sculptures. This exhibition will include a coach, a table and books available to turn its pages. But, as a matter of fact, there will be other ones that will be under a glass, because of its own historic relevance. I hope to see the first version of some historical books, or some interesting images printed in some of them. As the example of Alice in Wonderland that R. Walker, Walk Art Museum's librarian, described. Imagine, it will be shown the illustration from one drawer and on the other hand, Salvador Dali's version, representing his hallucinogeic style. I think that it's a great idea!!!! And, try to remember when was the last time that you started to read a book. Maybe a long time ago. So, this exhibition will invite people to come back to the last lecture that they stopped.

  1. It sounds very interesting about this new ideas because no one did it before. I think, nowaday artist use many diversity of knowledges to create art. Then it's good for us to see new trend in art.

  2. It's really that nowadays no one read books that much than before. So it is a good idea to make a gallery for books to show the people the importance of books In past and present

  3. This is an exemplary summary, Irlanda. I really enjoyed hearing the description of the Cuban artist's boat.

If you're interested in seeing more books as art, you could go to the Walker. Or, if you're looking for another option, you could go to Open Book, which is on Washington Ave.
